Dear friends, Thank You

by The Rev. Pat Hendrickson

This is a belated thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful send off you gave Kate and I last May. The love and support the you have shown both of us, throughout our journeys to ordination and since, cannot be measured. It was a joy to be able to celebrate with all of you. No matter where our travels may take us, St. Augustine's will always be our spiritual home for it is truly a place where the presence of the Holy Spirit can be felt and seen.

To all of you who contributed to the work I have been doing at the United Cerebral Palsy homes in Westlake Village, a special thanks. Your donations made it possible to give the clients a packet of movie tickets to be used as bingo prizes and for the staff to take clients to the movies. In addition a substantial sum has been designated to purchase undergarments, sweats, and pajamas for clients who have no means of support other than their SSI checks. Additional money has been set aside to buy one or two bocce sets next spring when a special ramp which can be used for those with little or no movement will be delivered to the facility. The fund will remain active and further donations can be given to Carrie designated for the UCP homes.

It has been a very busy summer. Kate started her new job as Vicar at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on June 1st. And what a start it was. Three services on her first Sunday followed by two funerals in that first week. I stayed in Thousand Oaks until after St. Patrick's Day school graduation. I joined Kate for two weeks and then we both flew back to Los Angeles for General Convention staff meetings in Anaheim. While here we took advantage of the new law and had a civil marriage ceremony at the Ventura County Court House. Kate returned to Hawaii after the meetings and I remained for two more weeks to tie up loose ends.

The first week of August was spent painting furniture as part of an eight day renovation of the preschool run by the church. The big common room which serves both the preschool and church got a who new look. The ceiling was replace, all the walls repaired and painted, all the trim changed from dark brown to a cream, all outside doors painted brown, while the insides were painted colors of the rainbow. You had to be there to see what a difference it made. The staff of the school were so excited. They kept telling us that no improvements had been made in over 20 years.

I will be doing chapels services for the school once a week and serving as a substitute teacher. I started last week and had my first day as a teacher on Friday. It is a challenge keeping three year old's attention for very long. I am not sure how it was for the children, but it was a long 6 hrs for me.

We are pretty well settled into the house. Still a little work to do getting the office organized. The guest room is ready and waiting. Please consider this an invitation to any and all. The new address is: 103 Kaanua Place Kailua, HI 96734. We have kept the same home phone number thanks to the wonders of the electronic age and Vonage. Our new cell numbers are: 808-237-9200, Kate+ 808-237-9300, Pat+. Please stay in touch, and thank you again for all your support. Blessings and peace, Pat & Kate
