Wanna Re-connect? Make Friends?

by Liesel Friedrich

Homecoming on Sept. 8th was great: a chance to greet and hug people who go to a different service than the one you do. It was also a chance to look around and delight in the many varieties of people who attend St. A's. The food was excellent. Now, if only we had more time ...

Time to make friends, time to re-connect with old friends, time to relax long enough to enjoy each other and to realize how much we have in common. If you'd like a chance to spend more time with the Women of St. A's, here's a great opportunity: Car-pool with us to St. Edmund's in San Marino on October 12 to hear Rev. Liz Habecker as the keynote speaker for a day in celebration of Women's Spirituality.

"Living Under the Influence" is the theme for the day, and Rev. Habecker's specialty is inspiring people to get out from under the yoke of money, schedules, bills and all the obligations that enslave us. She will teach us how to grow closer to God in our everyday lives, how to pray at a stoplight, how to know that God is with us at the DMV, and with us when we're lonely and need a friend.

The program will last from 9 until 3:30 and will include small group discussions, a Eucharist and a special ceremony in honor of the 25th anniversary of the ordination of 3 priests in our diocese: Rev. Habecker, rector of St. Mark's Church, Downey, Rev. Carol Anderson, rector of All Saints, Beverly Hills, and the Very Rev. Canon Victoria Hatch, Vicar of St. Agnes, Banning (the lst woman ordained in our diocese).

If you care about history, please plan to come on Oct 12 and participate as the triumphs and tribulations that these women have lived through are recounted. In that there are Still Christian denominations that do not allow women to serve God as a member of the clergy, come celebrate the courage and bravery and radical glory of our Episcopal heritage.

Lunch is included in the $15 cost for adults, and child care will be available. Flyers will be on the table on the patio after services between now and Oct 6th. Call Liesel Friedrich at 829-4248 if you want to share a ride.
