Corazon Letter Translation
by Cecil Slye
She writes: "Well, I want to say thanks that there are people like you who come to help the people of Mexico because life here is very hard. There are many people with few resources. My family needs this house because, as you see, I have many children and we are very crowded. Now we can all fit better.
And thank you for taking care of us and I hope that it won't bother you to ask you not to forget about us. And I humbly ask that, when you can, you send clothing for my children once in a while. Please forgive me if this is abusing your kindness, but I need it.
Thank you so much to each and every one of you and may God bless you all."
Kindly,
-
Rocio Ramirez Diaz and Fabiola, 16; Benito, 12; Jose, 11; Juan Carlos, 6; Perla Rubi, 3; Joshua 3 months
(nearby, but living on their own) Guadalupe, 20; and Jonathon, 17

The Bible and Prop. Eight
by The Rev. Hartshorn Murphy
"… how do the Episcopal bishops in California justify defying the bible on Prop. 8?" (Proposition 8 on the November ballot, if approved, would rescind the right of same sex couples to marry here in the State of California.)
For conservative Christians, the bible clearly and unambiguously condemns homosexuality (in a handful of debatable proof texts) and therefore, our Bishops are guilty of heresy.

A Reflection on St. Francis at the
Blessing of the Animals Celebration
by The Rev. Hartshorn Murphy
In 1209, Francis heard a sermon on the text from Matthew in which Jesus sends forth his disciples on a missionary journey.
"Take no gold, nor silver, nor copper in your belts, no bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the laborer deserves his food."… MORE
Consecration Sunday Is Coming
by Darrel Menthe,
Senior Warden
Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give to their church merely as a way to pay its bills. Rather, such congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually… MORE
A Confirmation Reflection
by Sophia Lund
More late-night talks with God ensued, and I felt His love and strength more than ever when I decided to change my focus within social work to one that empowers me to remain effective and positive. I realized that I missed the liturgy and intellectualism of the Episcopal church, and found myself led again and again to the peaceful and progressive St. Augustine's… MORE
A Julian Reflection
by The Rev. Hartshorn Murphy
I write this having just returned from participating in the "parish fun weekend" at Camp Stevens in Julian. Twenty-six adults and children - ranging in age from just turned 3 to just turned 60 (that would be me) - gathered in the pristine beauty of the San Jacinto mountains for a "time away."…" MORE
Associate's Search on hold (for now)
by The Rev. Hatshorn Murphy
The Rector has decided to put on hold the search for the new associate priest. And for good reason.
Over the last several years, our associates have commuted from as far away as Fullerton, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Hermosa Beach… MORE
A Corazon Reflection
by the Slye Family
On September 27th, our family joined the amazing group of volunteers from St. A's who went to build a house with Familia Corazon outside of Tijuana. It was our first trip to Mexico and our first "build"!… MORE
