Come to a Half-Day Prayer Retreat
We will explore various prayer practices, including walking the Labyrinth, so that you might find what best suits you. Adult Class for the Winter by The Rev. Laura Queen "God of Our Mothers" by M. R. Ritley During this teaching block we will engage in a lively, deep, and personal look at some of the Hebrew Scriptures most powerful and intriguing women. This is an engaging book that will help us to look at biblical texts in relation to our lives today. While this is about women in the bible I encourage gentlemen to come and engage in a healthy conversation about these wonderful women. During the course we will examine Sarah, who was unafraid to nudge God into action. Hagar, whose courage and passion founded a whole nation; and Judith, a warrior whose faith saved God's people. Reading the biblical stories of women up close will lead us into a discussion on how they might intersect with our own Spiritual journey. The class begins November 5. A sign-up sheet will be on the patio and copies of the book will be available in the bookstore. (Editor's Note: M.R. Ritley was a member of St. Augustine which was her sponsoring parish for seminary and ordination). Help Needed for Christmas Dinner by The Rev. Pat Hendrickson On Saturday, December 23rd St. Augustine will once again host a dinner for the homeless. For the first time since its inception, Mimi Adams will not be here to spearhead the event. Mimi's husband Ken, her daughter Julie and others who have pitched in over the years wish for the dinner to continue as a memorial to Mimi. Ken has asked for our help with this endeavor. At this time, the primary need is for persons, young and old, to help with setting up the parish hall and serving the meals. Set up begins about 8 am and doors open between 9 and 10 am. Meals are served until about 2 to 3 pm. What better way to reach out to the community during the season of giving. Put the date on your calendar now and plan to spend 2 to 4 hours helping with this wonderful ministry. Within the next month we will have sign up sheets out on patio and as we receive more information we will pass it on. Winter Family Retreat at the Episcopal Camp at Wrightwood, January 19-21, 2007 This year the Fall Family Retreat scheduled to be held at Camp Stevens in Julian has been re-scheduled for a Winter Camp at our Episcopal Camp in Wrightwood, California. Nestled in the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains at an altitude of 6,000 feet, the mountain setting is perfect for winter activities. There is a warm fireplace as well as plenty of hot chocolate. Plan for fellowship, fun and maybe a little skiing at the near by Mountain High Ski Resort. Save the date for this not to be missed parish event. One of the cabins there was refurbished through a grant from St. A's and is named "St. Augustine by-the-Sea Cabin." Look for it when you go. Registration materials available on the patio.
