Parish Retreat Weekend

by Ken Angliongto, Adult
I came here to relax and get away from things. Instead, I got refreshed. I got refreshed by the surroundings and how getting close to nature, got me closer to God. I got renewed by the sharing and discussion of God's Word and it reminded me that our convictions come from the Word and not people and what they think. I enjoyed meeting new friends and just plain having fun with them - eating, serving and sitting by the fire. Sometimes the simple things are more than enough to bring your spirits up.

For me, Camp Stevens was a great opportunity to meet the people I see every week. As a relatively new member of St. A's, it has been a challenge to get to know people. But this weekend, I finally got to put names to faces, and feel a part of the St. A's family. It reinforced the good feelings I had from worshipping every Sunday. The acceptance and loving environment is real!

This environment to me is a wonderful place to spend time with God, but at first I didn't want to go but now I don't want to leave, but too bad, well there's always next year! Camp Stevens rocks!

As newcomers to St. Augustine, this weekend meant an opportunity to become better acquainted with others in our community. This is how Ivett and I felt on the way here, but it turned out to be much more than that. We also explored what it means to be baptized into the Christian faith. It was very rewarding to explore the dimensions of faith that go beyond tradition and into the real core of what it means to follow in Christ's footsteps. Being able to explore this at the parish weekend while experiencing the kindness of those around us, made those two days in the wilderness especially meaningful.

Camp Stevens is a beautiful and welcoming place. We felt a real sense of community and acceptance. Leaving all the worries of every day routines to make new friends and have peace of mind. Being part of Christ's community and reaffirming values of caring for the environment and sharing in Christ's ways and appreciating all He has given us.
