Dear Mom - This Pentecost is for you!

Pentecost celebrates the birthday of the Church. It commemorates that day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples in an Upper Room, filling them with power, conviction and enthusiasm to go forth as the Body of Christ into the world to serve. (See Acts 2:1-11). As such, it has ranked second only behind Easter and ahead of Christmas as a major day of celebration of Christian folk.

This year, it's also Mother's Day.

The men folk of the parish are intrigued with the image of being those faithful disciples huddled in fear in that Upper Room, being filled with the Spirit and being driven by that same Spirit to come down from that Upper Room and clothed with the sevenfold gifts of the Spirit (wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and awe of God) − to put on aprons and cook for women.

Especially for families with young children, our "Flames of Pentecost Bar-be-que" is a viable option to crowded, noisy and expensive restaurants. So, you get to free mom from the kitchen on her special day and save a significant amount of money.

There will be some special musical entertainment and other surprises along the way. So if you're undecided about how to honor God and Mom (and at times, I know the distinction between the two can be blurred!), consider sharing our table fellowship that day − and put the money you've saved into a nicer gift for that special lady. Mom, this Pentecost is for you!

Worship at 10:30 a.m., followed by a "Picnic on the Patio", Sunday May 11th, 2008. Visitors are expected and welcome.
