Bible Study at OPCC Turning Point

by The Rev. Joyce Stickney

In June of last year, John Maceri, the Executive Director of OPCC (Ocean Park Community Center), visited St. A's and shared about the range of services offered through OPCC to the homeless community in Santa Monica. In the fall, I met with John to explore whether St. Augustine's might be able to assist in offering spiritual care to OPCC clients, as this is something currently not available through their programs.

Virgil Hill, the Project Director at Turning Point, and the residents at Turning Point recently asked if parishioners from St. Augustine's might lead a Bible Study for them on Monday mornings between 10 and noon. A couple of parishioners have already volunteered to lead this Bible Study once a month and I am looking for a few more people in order to offer the study weekly. You need not be a Biblical scholar or an experienced facilitator. The only requirement is an openness to serve the homeless community in sharing God's love and word. Each Bible study leader/facilitator will lead once a month and there are resources to help with preparation. Kathy May, who currently leads a weekly Bible study at Samoshel and serves on the OPCC Board of Directors is looking forward to meeting with a group of volunteers from St. Augustine's to share her experience and support. Please let me know if you might want to be a part of this ministry (310.395.0977).
