Calling Acolytes of All Ages

by Michael Bell, Seminarian

Whether you've done it before, have been curious, or would be completely new to it, we're seeking acolytes of all ages to help with services at least once a month. Don't worry if you can't tell a crucifer from a thurifer, or the narthex from the nave … What we're looking for are people who attend services regularly, have the heart and mind for helping us create sacred space for our worship together, and who would like to explore this form of service in our community.

When you serve as an acolyte, typically you'll be: carrying the cross or candles during the processions; supporting the reading of the Gospel; guiding children to/from Sunday school, and helping at the altar during Eucharist.

Being part of our liturgy in this role, offers you a new way of experiencing our worship together.

If you're interested in learning more and would consider committing to serving once a month, please join me in the chapel for a brief conversation at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 8th. This will be an informal discussion and Q&A session. A more formal orientation and training will be arranged later for those who choose to give this a try.

Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity to serve.

(For those who may not match the name with the face, Michael Bell is the person who you often see these days carrying the cross and assisting at the altar. Having completed a discernment process with us and with the diocese last year, Michael is now a full-time seminary student, continuing his formation and discernment toward ordination to the priesthood.)
