A Time to Build is Coming!

A Time to Build: A Santa Monica Interfaith Habitat Partnership is a collaborative effort between several Santa Monica congregations and Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing in Santa Monica. First United Methodist Church, St. Paul's Lutheran, First Presbyterian Church of Santa Monica, St. Augustine by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, and Santa Monica Synagogue are working together to make a difference in the affordable housing crisis.

In the spring of 2008, Habitat for Humanity will be building in Santa Monica for the first time. Habitat for Humanity partners with families in need and helps them get into clean, safe, affordable housing. The partner families go through extensive counseling on being successful homeowners as well as contributing 500 hours of sweat equity to the building of their own homes.

Habitat's first build in Santa Monica will be five townhouses at 2018 19th Street. The five townhomes are designed to meet Santa Monica's "Green Affordable Housing Checklist" and utilize energy efficient appliances with the goal of creating an environmentally friendly project.
