Sacred Stories: An Invitation to a Spring Adult Class

by The Rev. Laura V. Queen

Memory is the vehicle that shapes our identity. By telling our own story we are able to connect with our memories. Who do you come from? Who are you connected to? These relationships help to define who we are. Through stories we as Christians learn about our faith. Scripture remembers creation, birth, exodus, coming, discovery, captivity, death and resurrection. Words are how we keep the past alive. Stories are how we build relationships with each other and create community. We will be using the Sacred Stories video series featuring brief talks by Frederick Buechner, Maya Angelou & James Carroll.

These three noted writers recreate stories of their own lives, telling of their personal triumphs and tragedies. Through their storytelling, they invite viewers to discover for themselves the presence of God, the healing power of memory, the value of telling secrets, and the possibilities of changing the future by forgiving the past.

During this six week block we will explore our own sacred stories that shape our being. March 19, March 26, April 9, April 23, April 30, May 14 from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. (sign up not required).
