Summer Brunches and July 3rd Mass on the Beach

by The Rev. Joyce Stickney

The summer season and our new kitchen usher in the occasion for Sunday brunches between the 8 and 10:30 services. Plan either to stay after worship or come early and join your Christian family for a meal and fellowship. The brunches are being hosted by various groups in the parish and will run from June 19 through July 31, 9:15-10:15 AM in Pierson Hall. All ages are welcome as there will be crafts (geared for children) and ample opportunity for conversations… renewing friendships, growing to know someone new, and sharing stories. Jesus frequently shared food with his friends and acquaintances. We look forward to sharing food with you and deepening our community.

So many of our praise songs, hymns, and spirituals use images of water, the sea, waves, and shore to describe life in Christ. Taking advantage of our location as a parish "by-the-sea", four blocks from the Pacific, and building on the wealth of religious water metaphors, we will be worshipping at the beach on Sunday, July 3 at 10:30 AM. Following the service, you are invited to remain for a picnic lunch BYOB (bring your own basket) and beach fun - sand castle building, surfing practice, volleyball, etc. Our site will be at the shore just south of the west end of Ocean Park Blvd., on the north side of lifeguard stand #26. There is both short-term (2 hour - $1/hr)) and long term (all day - $6) parking available in beach lots. A shuttle van will leave from St. A's at 9:45 and 10 AM for those who would like this option. Please feel free to bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on, hats, sunscreen, shades, drinking water, and your "beach inclined" friends and neighbors.

Please note the 8 AM service on July 3rd will be in the chapel.
