Reflections on the Women's Retreat by Martha Goode When a fire has been going long enough it looks like a pile of grey, inert ash. Upon arrival, the group appeared covered with the ash of worldly concerns, not the least of which was: "What am I doing here?" Flowers, with loving care and sun, unfurl and reveal their full beauty. Moving outside into one of the garden spots of the world, we began to loosen up and unfold our gifts. Wouldn't you manifest your wonderful majesty in the guise of a peacock, stately and magnificent, as you made you way through a gathering of your earthly devotees? Rouach is a word for Holy Spirit and may be translated as breath. And so if you blow on a lingering fire you get red hot coals full of transformative power. Blown into our hearts, this extraordinary group created and celebrated the Eucharist and everything else together under the sun.
