Parish Fun Weekend at Camp Stevens by The Rev. Laura Queen On Friday, October 5 − Sunday, October 7, 2007 we will be having our annual parish fun weekend at beautiful Camp Stevens in Julian, California. Camp Stevens is a jewel in the crown of riches our diocese owns and operates. Just outside of the historic gold mining town of Julian in the San Jacinto mountains, Camp Stevens offers us a place to gather and celebrate our parish life. There is a swimming pool and over 200 acres of property to explore including an abandoned goldmine and a "ropes course." This time for fellowship and relaxation is a perfect opportunity for members of the congregation of all ages, with or without children, single or married/partnered, to spend quality time together and a wonderful way to get to know other parishioners in a beautiful and natural setting. Parents have said that they most value a safe place where our very "urban children" can run free and enjoy nature in a place that is home to wildlife including wild turkey, deer, a variety of birds and other animals. In addition, we try to schedule "adult time" in which the children have activities supervised by trained camp staff which permits parents some time apart from their kids and with other grown ups. A community campfire with s'mores and songs is a time of great community bonding. Many people have found that this parish weekend is one of the best things we do together at St. Augustine's. The accommodations include dormitory style sleeping and a comfortable meeting space where we gather for fun, relaxation, discussion and worship. In a comfortable dining room healthy meals eaten family style will be provided beginning with Saturday breakfast concluding with Sunday lunch. Registration materials are available on the patio, register today! Copyright © 2007 St. Augustine by-the-Sea
