St. A's Goes to the Mountains October 1-3, 2004 by The Rev. Joyce Stickney Camp Stevens, the Episcopal Camp in Julian, has become second home to many of us. A number of our youth participate in the various summer programs, we visit every fall for our annual parish weekend, and recently we pledged $25,000 to the camp's development fund. I even tried to work my summer schedule such that I could be camp chaplain for a week (perhaps next year). Camp Stevens offers the gift of immersing ourselves in creation - eating food grown in their gardens, hiking through the hills, and stargazing while also immersing ourselves in relationships. It is hard not to grow closer to and fond of people you are sharing the daily elements with - eating, sleeping (and snoring), brushing teeth, and hanging out. Our weekend in the mountains is a time to be together, away in creation. The schedule is not rigorous. There are activities planned and it is perfectly acceptable to REST. The facilities include a tree house, swimming pool, basketball/volleyball, hiking trails, and old mine, access to a charming town, and more. I am interested in the ropes course for those ages 11-60 and if there is adequate interest among attendees, this may be scheduled as well. Unfortunately, there is limited space in Blum Lodge (48 bunks), so please register soon by signing up on the patio on Sundays for more information and feel free to talk to me if you have any questions.
