Via Media Lenten Series

by The Rev. Joyce Stickney

I am an Anglican
I am P.E.*
Not a "high church"
But a Catholic and Protestant and free!
Not a Presbee.
Or a Lu'thern.
Or a Baptist, white with foam!
I am an Anglican
Just one step from Rome!
I am an Anglican
Via Media!
Boom, Boom!

(*protestant Episcopal)
Episcopal camp cheer circa 1960
The Rev. Hartshorn Murphy

Last summer Christa Buswell and I attended a training seminar for Via Media (the Middle Way) and learned about a new tool for evangelism. In a time of conflict in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion in response to the ordination of Gene Robinson, Every Voice Network has developed a curriculum that teaches about the Episcopal Church and what it means to be an Episcopalian in today's world. Christa and I returned to St. Augustine's eager to adopt this new program which celebrates who we are as Anglicans and invites others to "taste and see".

During the Lenten season we will be gathering on Wednesdays for a six week series, with videos featuring prominent figures in the Anglican Church talking about various issues, in addition to time for open discussion and of course, FOOD. If you were the kid who got in trouble in Sunday School for asking too many questions, join the rest of us. Please invite a friend to come along too. Your vestry and clergy are looking forward to this time together with you to celebrate our common life and faith.

When? 6:30-8:30 PM on Wednesday Feb. 16, 23 and March 3, 10, 17, 23

Where? Pierson Hall

Childcare will be available.
