Flowers for the Altar

by Sheila Harrington, Altar Guild

The natural beauty of flowers does much to enhance our worship experience. Altar flowers are donated to the glory of God by our parishioners in memory of loved ones or in thanksgiving for life's blessings. If you would like to give flowers on a Sunday of special significance, here is the procedure:

Look for envelopes in the service bulletin, simply fill out the envelope and deliver it in person or by mail to the church office along with your payment. The flowers will be ordered by the Altar Guild for the Sunday you request. The Altar Guild works with a particular florist who knows our Sanctuary and colors. Flowers will also be appropriate to the season and to the church year (during Lent, there are no altar flowers). If you wish a specific date, be sure to have your donation in early. At any case, flower requests should be sent in at least a week ahead of time.

The church gladly accepts all donations for Christmas and Easter flowers, however large or small, as these are special occasions and merit the festivity that may flowers provide. After the last service of these high feast days, parishioners are encouraged to take the pots of lilies or poinsettias to the sick or shut in.
