Susan Tree by Ivett Leyva Last year our community experienced a tremendous loss when Susan Amlotte passed away. One of the many ministries she was involved with was the NYA Gifting Tree. The Neighborhood Youth Association, founded in 1906, is a community-based social service agency and diocesan institution that works with kids and teenagers from the Venice and Mar Vista area throughout the year with after-school programs and enrichment programs such as dance, art classes, etc. NYA has relied on the generosity of St. A's for several years to bring Christmas gifts to kids and teenagers in need. These gifts have ranged from school back packs to Barbie dolls to Yu Gi Oh cards. This year I am coordinating the Susan Tree ministry. On the first Sunday in Advent, November 28, you will see the Susan Tree in the entranceway to the church. Each ornament on the tree has the name of a child and their Christmas wish. We invite you to participate in this outreach project by picking one or more ornaments, purchasing the child's wish, wrapping the gift, and taping the ornament with the child's name on the top of the package. As you take an ornament please make a note on the clip board indicating which gift you are committing to buy or personally give me your name and gift selection so that we may keep track of the donor/receiver matches. Please bring the gift(s) to church on or before Sunday, December 12 as they will be delivered that week to the party. If you have any questions, or would like to help with transporting the gifts to the Christmas party, please feel free to contact me. Thanks very much in advance for your generosity and carrying on this ministry in the spirit of Susan's love and life. We have 90 names this year, so I am hoping for a great response.
