Speaking of Faith - Adult Education Discussion Classes May 13 & 20, 2007 Discussion will be facilitated by The Rev. Laura Queen May 13 - The Gods of Business Most of us knew little about Enron and WorldCom until they became household words by way of scandal. So as charges of unethical conduct and illegal practices were made against the company - and subsequently other organizations - we have had limited ability to assess the ramifications or predict the impact. Certainly, though, these topics became a high priority among ethicists and business leaders throughout the world, many of whom are now encouraging us to understand the moral issues these scandals uncovered and our stake in addressing them. Krista Tippett, host of American Public Radio's Speaking of Faith and her guest Prabhu Guptara, Director of Executive and Organizational Development at the Wolfsberg Center, a subsidiary of USB of Switzerland, a practicing Hindu and self-described follower of Jesus will provide us with information that will help us to engage in a conversation about the gods of business. May 20 - The Spirituality of Parenting Raising a new human being is a monumental spiritual task. Children often become little theologians and philosophers, asking huge questions about life and the universe. They may ask us how we got here, where God lives, why people die, why people hurt each other and what it means to be good and to be happy. Questions such as these are the building blocks of religion and ethics. We refine them all of our lives, but they essentially remain the same. Krista Tippett, host of American Public Radio's Speaking of Faith and her guest Rabbi Sandy Sasso, of congregation Beth-El Zedeck in Indianapolis and author of many children's books, will help us to have a lively conversation about the spirituality of parenting. Using the transcript from the popular NPR radio program, Speaking of Faith, we will discuss the subject at hand.
