Jesus Has Become An American!

by The Rev. Joyce Stickney

Stephen Prothero, chair of the Department of Religion at Boston University, has written a book called American Jesus: How the Son of God Became a National Icon. This will be the topic of the Adult Education class during the Easter and Pentecost seasons (April 10 - June 5) on Sundays 10-11 AM in the Mother Jones Room. We will look at how the figure of Jesus has been turned into various images: Jesus the Black Moses, the Jew, the Hindu sage, the Haight-Ashbury hippie - from folk hero to counter cultural icon. As we study how Jesus has become a national icon, we will also ponder our own images of Jesus, both personal and corporate.

Please sign up on the patio if you plan to attend, as books will be available for purchase in the bookstore. Cost for the book is $14 + tax.
